A deep, uncut classic funk night hosted by DJ Confucius Jones of KUTX, with all proceeds benefiting The Black Fund of Central Texas and the Black Leaders Collective.
DJ Confucius Jones brings Heavy Funk Night to Radio/East on Saturday, October 10, from 7 PM to 10 PM. Presented by Interplanetary Help Desk, the night is built around Jones, a DJ with KUTX, spinning deep, uncut classic funk. He'll be playing One Nation Under a Groove and Heavy Funk Night, and the set draws from James Brown, Parliament-Funkadelic and George Clinton, along with Sly Stone, Ohio Players, Earth, Wind & Fire, Rick James, Curtis Mayfield, The Meters, Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker, Betty Davis, Rufus, the Isley Bros, Larry Graham, Dr. John, Cymande and Cameo.
That list covers a lot of groundโfrom the heavy hitters like James Brown and Parliament-Funkadelic to the deeper cuts of the Meters and Cymande. It's the kind of range that keeps a dance floor moving for three hours, and the room is described as deep, sweaty, old-school funk for all ages. If you're into the raw, rhythmic side of the 60s and 70s, this is exactly that.

There's a good reason to show up, too: every dollar from ticket sales goes to The Black Fund of Central Texas and the Black Leaders Collective. It's a fundraiser, so your entry does more than just get you into the room. Tickets are $15, and the music runs from 7 PM to 10 PM at Radio/East, 3504 Montopolis Drive.
