Live music session featuring Austin natives Geoff Queen and Josh Hoag at Sam's Town Point.
Geoff Queen and Josh Hoag are playing Sam's Town Point on Tuesday, August 25, starting at 6 PM. Both are Austin natives, so it's a couple of local songwriters sharing a bill on a Tuesday night. The show is billed as a happy hour, which fits the early start time—6 PM is more of a pre-dinner thing than a late-night outing.
If you're not familiar with the venue, Sam's Town Point is one of the city's better-kept secrets. It's tucked away in a wooded neighborhood beyond Slaughter and Manchaca, camouflaged by the trees, and it's come to be known as the south pole of Austin's musical axis. Geographically speaking, it's one of the least visible rooms in town, so if you haven't been before, it's worth keeping the address handy.
That location is part of the draw. While most of the city's live music clusters around the center or the East Side, this is way out south, far from the usual circuit. It's the kind of place you go to when you want to get away from the noise of the more crowded parts of town and just listen to a couple of singers work through their sets. With Queen and Hoag both being from Austin, the whole thing stays rooted in the city's own songwriting tradition.
