Live blues music session with Goldie Pipe at the historic Antone's Nightclub in downtown Austin.
Goldie Pipe brings the Tap Ya Toe Jam to Antone's on Tuesday, July 28, with the set starting at 8 PM. It's a live music night at one of the city's most storied rooms, and if you've been around the Austin scene for a while, the name Antone's carries a lot of weight.
Antone's Nightclub is on East 5th Street in downtown Austin, and it's been around since the summer of 1975. Clifford Antone started it on Sixth Street, where it brought blues musicians like B.B. King and the Fabulous Thunderbirds to town. In 1997 it moved to the corner of Fifth and Lavaca, and the room runs over 5,000 square feet and holds around 650 guests, with the interior lined with artwork of music legends. Over five decades it's hosted greats like Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed and Buddy Guy, and helped break local talent including Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmie Vaughan, Bob Schneider and Gary Clark Jr. In 2015 the historic brand was restored and a new team brought the venue back to the downtown Austin landscape with a renewed focus on making it the 'Home of the Blues.'
That history is part of the draw here. When you walk in, you're in a room that's seen a huge stretch of the city's blues and roots tradition, from the early days on Sixth to the current spot on Fifth. The Tap Ya Toe Jam puts Goldie Pipe center stage in that environment, and the name itself gives you a good sense of what to expect: music that's meant to get you moving.
