Late-night comedy show blending classic TV energy with live standup, interviews, Q&A and a live band.
Jo Ellis headlines Friendly Fire at The Creek & the Cave on Saturday, October 17, from 5 to 6:30 PM. It's a late-night comedy show that runs on a specific premise: the audience becomes part of the act. The format blends the energy of classic late-night television with the spontaneity of a live comedy club, mixing headlining standup with guest interviews, audience Q&A, and a live band.
Friendly Fire is billed as Austin's number one live late-night comedy show, and that variety is exactly what it delivers. Rather than a single set, the night moves through different segments—standup, interviews, and crowd interaction—all held together by the live band. It's the kind of show where the room matters as much as the stage, and the audience is expected to lean in.
The venue is The Creek & the Cave, located at 611 E. Seventh in downtown Austin, in the space formerly occupied by Barracuda. The club spent 14 years in New York City before the pandemic made it impossible to stay, and during that time it helped launch the careers of Donald Glover, Tim Dillon, Kevin Barnett, and Sara Benincasa. Owner Trent describes it as "part Master Class, part Dojo, part club, and all funny," a clubhouse for comics that keeps both indoor and outdoor stages. There's a full drink menu and food from The Creek and The Crave food truck.
