Mohawk presents Flounce with special guests Hallo and Pry, a visceral post-punk noise performance.
Flounce play Mohawk on Sunday, October 4, with Hallo and Pry opening. It's an Austin post-punk bill, so you'll get three bands in one night.
Flounce is an Austin post-punk outfit, and they describe their sound as visceral, violent and dynamic. They pair howling feedback with dub bass lines, and they talk about their live shows as evoking British post-punk run through a Dischord Records cheesecloth. If you're not familiar with the references, that's a nod to the jagged, angular energy of the UK post-punk scene filtered through the raw, stripped-down spirit of the DC hardcore label. It's a good way to frame what they're doing: the dub bass keeps it grounded while the feedback pushes it toward the noise end of the spectrum.
Hallo and Pry open the night, so the whole evening stays in that post-punk noise territory. The bill is presented by Mohawk, a live music venue and events space known for killer concerts, strong pours and excellent parties, with a mission to foster and preserve a community of friends, artists and industry personnel representing all music tastes and walks of life. It's one of the city's go-to rooms for this kind of show.
