Weekly reggae and ska night at Flamingo Cantina featuring the Tijuana Train Wreck horn section and authentic Jamaican food.
Dreadneck Wednesdays is back at Flamingo Cantina on Wednesday, September 9, as part of the weekly reggae night that's been a fixture on Sixth Street for more than a decade. It's billed as the best regular reggae and ska show in town, and the only place to be on a Wednesday night.
The sound comes from a specific formula: four-part harmonies and a driving reggae beat backed by a full horn section from the Tijuana Train Wreck, which they describe as a professional reggae orchestra. It's a big, layered sound rather than a stripped-down jam, and it's what has kept the night going for so many years. Along with the music, there's authentic Jamaican food from Winston's Kitchen served right there, so you can eat and listen in the same room. The series is supported in part by the City of Austin's Live Music Fund Program of Austin Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment.
