A gender-bending, quick-changing comedy reimagining of Bram Stoker's gothic classic, directed by Jamie Rogers.
Dracula - A Comedy of Terrors opens at Austin Community College Highland Campus on Friday, October 16, and runs through November 1. It's a 90-minute, gender-bending reimagining of Bram Stoker's gothic classic, written by Gordon Greenberg and Steve Rosen and directed by Jamie Rogers. The show flips the original story on its head, among other things by making the vampire hunter a woman, and the authors describe the result as if Stoker's tale had been blended with Mel Brooks, Monty Python and The 39 Steps.
It's built on clever wordplay and anything-goes pop-culture references, so it's more of a comedy than a horror story. The production is staged by the ACC drama department, and the cast is small: five actors double across more than a dozen roles, which means you'll see them switching characters throughout the show. All ticket sales go to the ACC Drama and Dance Scholarship Fund.
