A dance party with Austin DJ Mel, featuring 70s to 2000s hip hop, R&B, disco and house, as part of the ACL Fest Nights series.
DJ Mel takes over ACL Live at 3TEN on Saturday, October 17, for a dance party that starts at 7 PM and runs through 11 PM. It's billed as a "dance, drink, and get home" early party, so you can get your dancing in and still be back in your own bed at a decent hour.
Mel is known as Obama's DJ, and that background shows in the range he's pulling from for this one. The set spans four decades of hip hop and R&B—the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s—and then stretches out into disco and house. It's a broad sweep that moves from the old-school foundations of the genre through the golden era and into the more recent stuff, with disco and house filling in the gaps. If you're the kind of person who can't decide between a 90s R&B throwback and a house beat, this is exactly the kind of night that lets you have both.
The whole thing is part of the venue's 2026 ACL Fest Nights concert series, which runs alongside the main festival. It's a separate thing from the festival grounds, so you don't need a wristband to get in. And if you're coming hungry, Home Slice pizza will be on hand, which is a nice Austin touch to have inside the room.
