Interactive comedy murder mystery dinner theatre where actors hide among diners, turning everyone into a suspect while enjoying a four-course meal.
The Dinner Detective is bringing its murder mystery dinner show to the Hotel Indigo Austin Downtown - University on December 6 and December 20, both starting at 6 PM. It's a national touring production that's been running since it opened in Los Angeles back in 2004, and it bills itself as North America's largest interactive comedy murder mystery dinner theatre.
What sets this one apart from your typical murder mystery is that it skips the campy costumes and far-fetched plots. Instead, the actors hide among the diners, playing innocent and turning everyone in the room into a prime suspect. You'll spend the evening interrogating the people around you to dig out clues and decide who has a bloodthirsty look in their eyes, with dramatic deaths and simulated police involvement along the way. Between the sleuthing, you'll work through a four-course meal washed down with bottomless iced tea, coffee, and drinks from the cash bar. The diner who comes closest to solving the crime goes home with a prize basket.

The cast brings more than two decades of experience in theatre, film, and improv, and they aren't afraid to lean into the drama—prop guns and gunshot sound effects may be used during the performance. It's an ages 12+ show, so it's more of a group outing than a date night. Both dates are at the Hotel Indigo Austin Downtown - University, 810 Red River St, starting at 6 PM.
