A solo piano recital by acclaimed Russian pianist Daniil Trifonov, presented by ATX Chamber Music and Jazz.
Daniil Trifonov plays a solo piano recital at The Mansion (Tex-Fed) on Friday, November 20, at 7:30 PM. It's a single-night appearance in Austin, presented by ATX Chamber Music and Jazz.
If you haven't come across his name, Trifonov is one of those pianists who has a long list of accolades behind him. He's a Grammy Award winner, and in a single season he took home medals at three of the world's most prestigious competitions: the Chopin, Rubinstein, and Tchaikovsky. Musical America named him Artist of the Year, and Gramophone did the same. The Times of London described him as "without question the most astounding pianist of our age."
There's also a more personal side to the way he's talked about. Martha Argerich, one of the most respected pianists in history, said after hearing him, "He has tenderness and also the demonic element. I never heard anything like that." He's an exclusive Deutsche Grammophon artist and a composer in his own right, so he's as much a creator as he is a performer. The recital is being billed as one of Austin's most anticipated musical events of the season.

ATX Chamber Music and Jazz is the organization bringing him in. They donate 10% of their seating capacity to children and their chaperones and present their artists free of charge in schools, youth centers, and retirement homes, so the ticket price goes toward more than just the night itself. Tickets run from $46.25 to $86.25, and the recital starts at 7:30 PM at The Mansion on San Gabriel Street.
