Country music performance by Dale Watson and Silverheels Band at The Broken Spoke, a historic Texas dancehall venue.
Dale Watson plays The Broken Spoke on Saturday, July 18, with the Silverheels Band opening the evening. It's a double-bill that stretches across two different parts of the venue, so you can make a whole night of it.
Silverheels Band takes the restaurant stage from 6 PM to 8 PM, which is the early, dinner-hour slot. If you're coming for a meal first, that's where you'll find them. Then Dale Watson takes over the dancehall at 9 PM. Between the two, there's a gap in the middle of the evening, so you can either roll in early for dinner and the first set, or just show up later for the dancehall.
For a bit of context on the place, The Broken Spoke is at 3201 S. Lamar Blvd, and it's been around since 1964, when James M. White opened it. It's one of the city's old-school Texas dancehalls, and it's still running live music Tuesday through Saturday. They serve homestyle meals, and the chicken fried steak is the one they're most known for. If you're not already a regular, it's a good spot to get a feel for that side of Austin's music scene.

Beyond this particular Saturday, the Spoke keeps a few other things going. They hold two-step dance lessons Wednesday through Saturday from 8 PM to 9 PM, with the dancehall opening at 7:15 PM. On Tuesdays, they have 'Two-Step Tuesdays' with Weldon Henson at 8:15 PM, which carries a $10 cover. For the July 18 show, there's no cover in the restaurant, though tips are requested. Dale Watson starts at 9 PM in the dancehall.
