Country music performance by Dale Watson at the Parker Jazz Club in Austin.
Dale Watson plays Parker Jazz Club on Thursday, August 27, at 7:30 PM. It's a local Austin show for a country musician who's been working in the city for more than 40 years, so it's one of those nights where the artist is as much a part of the town as the venue is.
Watson is an award-winning country musician and producer, and his name carries some weight in the genre. Over four decades, he's shared the stage with Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson — a list of names that pretty much maps out the lineage of American country music. He's also appeared on David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel, and Austin City Limits, so he's a familiar face on the national stage as well as a fixture around here.
Beyond the performing, there's a whole studio side to his work. He's released more than 30 albums and singles, and he built Wat-sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee, which houses the 1937 board from Sun Studio. That's a piece of music history in its own right, and it gives you a sense of where his head is — rooted in the old-school sound and the gear that made it.
