Crescendo

The Austin Gay Men's Chorus returns to KMFA Classical 89.5 on Saturday, September 26, for Crescendo, the chorus's annual fall fundraising event. It's an intimate evening of music and local talent that opens their new season, and it's as much about the community as it is about the singing. The night kicks off with a cocktail hour and a silent auction, so it's the kind of event where you can hang out and browse the auction items before the music actually starts.

The program is built around the chorus, which is led by artistic director Michael K. Smith. They're one of the largest gay men's choirs in the country, part of an organization with chapters in more than 30 cities. Along with the full chorus, the evening features special guest artist Kenny Williams, performances by individual chorus members, and selections from the breakout ensemble Take Note!. Trevor Scott of CBS Austin's We Are Austin hosts the night, keeping things moving between the different acts.

Because it's a benefit, the money raised goes back into the chorus's work throughout the year. The cocktail hour and silent auction run before the main performance, so if you're planning to bid, you'll want to arrive early. The whole thing takes place at KMFA Classical 89.5, located at 41 Navasota St in Austin.

Tickets start at $70, and the show begins at 6 PM on Saturday, September 26.
