Crafty Adult: Celebrate National S'mores Day

Crafty Adult is back at the Little Walnut Creek Branch of the Austin Public Library on Monday, August 3, for a session built around National S'mores Day. It's a craft workshop for adults 18 and over, and the theme is exactly what it sounds like: everyone makes their own s'more-inspired craft.

If you haven't come across it before, Crafty Adult is the library's ongoing craft series, formerly known as Night Crafters. The format is pretty consistent: each month focuses on a different craft, and the session is split between learning the basics—the ins and outs of a particular technique—and then letting loose with it. Over the years, the repertoire has run through hooks, needles, and crochet, as well as resin workshops, basket weaving, and library card mosaics. Guest instructors like Rona Thornton and Melissa Knight have led past sessions, so there's usually someone there to walk you through the process if you're starting from scratch.

This particular one leans into the nostalgia of the s'more—the toasted marshmallow, the chocolate, the graham cracker—and turns it into a project you can actually take home. It's less about the eating and more about the making, though the s'more itself is the whole point of the theme. Since it's part of the Crafty Adult series, you'll get the usual mix of a little instruction followed by some time to work on your own version.

The workshop runs from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM, so it's an hour and a half in total. Doors open at 5:25 PM, and parking is free. It's open to adults 18 and over, and it's held at the Little Walnut Creek Branch, 835 W Rundberg Ln, Austin, TX 78753.
