Live two-step dancehall music performance by Cory Cross and Manny Velazquez at the historic Broken Spoke venue.
Cory Cross and Manny Velazquez are playing the Broken Spoke on Wednesday, September 16. It's a double bill that brings together two artists from different parts of the country: Cross comes in from Fort Worth, Texas, and Velazquez from Scottsdale, Arizona.
If you're planning to make a night of it, the timing is something to keep in mind. Manny Velazquez opens from 6 PM to 8 PM, and Cory Cross takes over at 9 PM. That hour in between gives you a chance to grab a drink or some food before the main set starts.
Speaking of food, the Broken Spoke is as much about the kitchen as it is about the music. It's a live music venue that pairs homestyle meals—its chicken fried steak is the one most people talk about—with a dancehall floor that's hosted generations of Texas dancers. The venue was established in 1964 by James M. White and goes by the name 'Last of the True Texas Dancehalls.'

Beyond the nightly bookings, there's a dance lesson running that evening, too. Two-step lessons happen Wednesday through Saturday from 8 PM to 9 PM, and the dancehall opens at 7:15 PM. So if you arrive early, you can get some dancing in before the music kicks off. The Spoke is at 3201 S. Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78704.
