A traditional Austin honky-tonk bingo night where a chicken picks the winning number on a giant bingo board, set to honky-tonk music.
Chicken Shit Bingo is on this Sunday at The Little Longhorn Saloon, and if you've never seen it, it's one of those Austin things that sounds a bit wild until you're actually there. The premise is exactly what it says: a chicken is let loose on a giant bingo board, and it picks its own winning number. The 'Chicken Shit Official' calls the square, and the winners go up on stage to collect their prize, which changes from week to week. The crowd spends the whole time cheering the bird along with animal noises, and the whole thing runs to a honky-tonk soundtrack of two-stepping and cowboy hats. It's an Austin tradition that's been running at the same spot for over 50 years.
That spot is The Little Longhorn Saloon, which calls itself the 'honkiest tonkiest beer joint in town.' It's been a fixture of the city's honky-tonk scene for more than four decades, booking over ten bands a week and more than 600 a year, all with no cover charge. The game has drawn plenty of attention over the years, too—The Daily Texan's award-winning video department has covered it, and PBS's Wild Travels devoted an entire episode to a Chicken Shit Sunday.

It's a low-stakes, high-energy afternoon that works as well if you're just there for the beer and the music as if you're playing for the win. The game runs every Sunday from 4 to 8 PM at 5434 Burnet Road, Austin, Texas 78756. Entry is $2 or $5 cash per person, with one ticket per person.
