Country dance band Fingerpistol performs their residency at The Little Longhorn Saloon in Austin.
Fingerpistol are playing The Little Longhorn Saloon on Tuesday, December 29, starting at 8 PM. If you've spent any time in the Austin country scene, you've probably run into them—they're a three-time Austin Music Award-winning country dance band, and this is part of their Tuesday night residency at the Longhorn, so it's as much a regular night out as it is a show.
They've been around since the turn of the millennium, started by frontman Dan Hardick and bassist Sam Wilson. Hardick is a familiar name around town for more than just the music; he also writes an advice column for The Austin Chronicle. Over the years, the band has put out a handful of records that trace their path through different corners of the genre: Big, Wet, Sloppy World came out in 1999, followed by Young and Beautiful in 2008, which broke into the top 100 of the Americana chart, and the Bakersfield-style honky-tonk album Stepped in it Again in 2014. Between the dance-hall swing and the Bakersfield sound, there's plenty of ground they cover.
The current lineup puts Mandy Prater on vocals, Landis Armstrong on guitar, Andrew C. Gerfers on drums, Sam Wilson on bass, and Andrew Nafziger on pedal steel. That steel guitar is a big part of what makes them a dance band—it's the sound that keeps a dance floor moving. Beyond the Tuesday residency at the Longhorn, they play dance halls and honky-tonks across Central Texas and the Southwest, so if you're coming from outside Austin, this is one of the easier ways to catch them.
