Casa de la Cultura: Colorin Colorado

Colorin Colorado is back at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center on Tuesday, October 13, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. It's a monthly story time for toddlers who love to wiggle, clap, dance and imagine, and it's part of Casa de la Cultura, a program of accessible, inclusive, family-friendly classes and workshops rooted in the preservation of Mexican American, Indigenous and Latino culture and traditions.

Each session brings together singing canciones, playing games and reading stories that reflect the beauty of language, identity, family and cultural traditions. It's designed for the youngest ones, so it's as much about moving and making noise as it is about listening. The whole thing is built around the idea of introducing families to these traditions through things kids actually enjoy doing together.

Casa de la Cultura organizes its offerings around nine pillars: Danza, Cocina, Arte Cultural, Jardín, Movimiento, Música, Cine, Literatura and Comunidad. Colorin Colorado sits right at the intersection of a few of those—Música, Literatura and Comunidad—and it's just one of the many classes and workshops the program runs throughout the year.

The sessions are held at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center (ESB MACC), 600 River St., Austin, TX 78701. The center reopened to the public on June 6, 2026, following a Phase 2 expansion and renovation under the 2018 Facility Expansion Plan approved by City Council. It's dedicated to the preservation, creation, presentation and promotion of the cultural arts of Mexican Americans and Latino cultures.

Colorin Colorado runs every second Tuesday of the month, so if you can't make this one, the next few are November 10, 2026, and December 8, 2026, with the first of the new year on January 12, 2027. Each session runs from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM.
