The Bluegrass Outfit are playing Radio Coffee & Beer tonight, Monday, July 27, from 7 PM to 10 PM. If that's too short notice, they'll be back at the same spot next Monday, August 3, for another 7 PM to 10 PM set.
It's a residency, not a one-off. The Bluegrass Outfit is a loose association of bluegrass pickers from Austin and San Marcos who have played Radio Coffee & Beer every Monday for 14 years. That's a long run for any act, let alone one that's been holding down the same night for over a decade. The night is an all-ages residency presented by Radio/East, so it's as easy to bring the kids as it is to just drop in on your own.
Their sets blend traditional bluegrass with high-energy acoustic playing, built around banjo, fiddle, guitar and tight vocal harmonies. The lineup is a rotating cast of pickers from the Austin and San Marcos areas, which is why they're described as a loose association rather than a fixed band. That's part of the draw—the sound stays rooted in bluegrass, but the players change, and the energy shifts from week to week.
