A goth rave featuring techno, industrial and DIY production on its first Halloween tour.
NOWHERE2RUN brings Bloodrave to Brushy Street Commons on Friday, September 4, as part of the night's first Halloween tour. It's a goth rave, so the music pulls from techno and industrial, and it's all DIY production. If you're into the darker side of the dance floor, that's the whole pitch in a nutshell.
The venue itself is one of East Austin's better-kept secrets. Brushy Street Commons sits inside the sound stage of the historic 501 Studios building, a room that spends its days serving food and drinks and turns into a live event space by night. It's a spot with some real local history: over more than thirty years, it's been the set of countless national commercials, and Austin legends like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Willie Nelson filmed music videos here. Universal Pictures outfitted the soundstage for the 1981 film Raggedy Man, starring Sissy Spacek and Eric Roberts, and the Texas Lottery drew and broadcast its millionaires from the room for more than a decade. It's a lot of history for a room that's usually just serving drinks.
Bloodrave is the main feature of the night, and since it's on its first Halloween tour, the Austin date is one of the stops. The sound is a mix of techno and industrial, all DIY production, so it's built for dancing rather than just listening. It's a goth rave, which puts it right in that intersection of club music and the darker, more industrial side of the scene. If that's your speed, this is the kind of night you want on your radar.
