A festive gospel and western swing concert featuring the 14-time Grammy-winning Blind Boys of Alabama and the Austin-based Asleep At The Wheel.
Blind Boys of Alabama and Asleep At The Wheel are sharing the stage at ACL Live at The Moody Theater on Wednesday, December 16, for a one-night special called Go Tell It On The Mountain - A Lone Star Holiday Celebration. It's a holiday show that puts gospel roots and western swing in the same room, and between the two of them, they've picked up 14 Grammy Awards.
Asleep At The Wheel has been an Austin fixture for a long time. They moved here from the Bay Area in 1974 after playing the Armadillo World Headquarters with Commander Cody, and they've stayed a Texas and Western Swing band ever since. Ray Benson is their only original member, and he's been leading the group since 1970. Their 2025 album, Riding High In Texas, introduces new vocalist and fiddler Ian Stewart alongside Benson, with guest spots from Lyle Lovett and Billy Strings.
That's the Western Swing half of the bill. The Blind Boys of Alabama bring the gospel soul, and the two acts are joining forces for this one night rather than playing separate sets. The title, Go Tell It On The Mountain, points toward the holiday theme they're building the evening around.
