Blade Runner: The Final Cut in IMAX

Blade Runner: The Final Cut is coming to the Bullock IMAX Theater on Tuesday, August 4, as part of the Paramount Summer Classic Film Series. It's Ridley Scott's 1982 sci-fi noir, 118 minutes long, and it's being shown in IMAX.

If you're not familiar with the story, it's a dark, unsettling piece of science fiction set in a futuristic world where replicants—androids virtually indistinguishable from humans—blend in with the rest of us. That makes life a lot harder for Harrison Ford, who plays a man tasked with hunting them down. The film is adapted from a novel by Philip K. Dick, who provided the source material for many great sci-fi movies. Ford is joined by Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, and Edward James Olmos, and Scott describes the film as his visually astonishing, genre-defining masterpiece.

The screening is part of the Paramount Summer Classic Film Series at the Bullock IMAX Theater, which is housed in The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. It's Austin's only IMAX theater: a 400-seat, fully accessible facility equipped with a projector that handles both 2-D and 3-D, and can also run special films on a movie-quality 35mm projector. The theater has its own separate entrance and can operate independently of the museum, opening in the evenings with extended hours on weekends. If you're standing in the lobby, the carpet pattern incorporates native Texas flora.
