Sahara Lounge is a laid-back music dive in rural East Austin that opened in 2011, taking over the spot when the BYO-liquor roadhouse T.C.'s Lounge retired. It kept much of the old building, adopting a vaguely African theme and fencing in a back patio, while holding onto its big unpaved parking lot and a tiny corner stage. With a capacity of 150, it books rock, funk, Afro-jazz, hip-hop, country, Brazilian and garage rock seven nights a week. It's the kind of place that feels more like a neighborhood haunt than a formal venue, and the small stage keeps the music close.
