A four-week workshop designed to improve balance, coordination and posture through cognitive and physical exercises, aimed at adults 50 and over.
Ballet Austin's Butler Center for Dance & Fitness is hosting the Better Balance & Movement™ Workshop on Mondays from August 10 through August 31, with each session running from 2:00 to 2:45 PM. It's a four-week series, so you'll be coming back each Monday for a month rather than just dropping in for a single day.
Mary Kaufman is teaching this one. The workshop itself was developed by Vicki Parsons, the former director of the Butler Center and a certified brain health trainer and functional aging specialist. The whole thing is built on the brain-to-body connection, combining cognitive and physical exercises through simple brain and muscle movements. The goal is to improve balance, coordination, and posture, and to help prevent falls. It's aimed at adults 50 and over, and it's also open to caregivers. It's also beneficial for people living with neurological conditions like Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, and stroke.
This is part of Ballet Austin's Active Aging Workshops, a suite of fitness and movement classes tailored to different stages of life and taught by certified fitness and Pilates instructors. That same suite includes Babywearing Dance for new parents and Pink Pilates for breast cancer survivors, so this is one of several programs they've put together for different needs.
