Ballet Austin opens its 2026/27 season with Stephen Mills' full-length classical ballet, reimagining Shakespeare's comedy with live music by the Austin Symphony Orchestra.
Ballet Austin opens its 2026/27 season with A Midsummer Night's Dream, running at The Long Center in Dell Hall over three performances: Friday, September 25 at 7:30 PM, Saturday, September 26 at 7:30 PM, and Sunday, September 27 at 3 PM. It's a full-length classical ballet, and the music is played live by the Austin Symphony Orchestra.
Stephen Mills handled the concept and choreography, reimagining Shakespeare's comedy as a moonlit forest where confused lovers, mischievous fairies, and wayward spells run the show until the couples finally wander back to one another. The production is set to Felix Mendelssohn's lively score, and critics have pointed to its clear storytelling, spirited dancing, and Mills' comedic sensibilities. Dianetzy Rojas dances Titania and Leighton Taylor takes Oberon.

If you're heading to opening night on Friday, there's more to do than just the show. The pre-show setup includes a Welcome Center, themed selfie stations, and signature cocktails like Titania's Kiss and Puck's Prank, along with small bites. There's also a Behind the Ballet pop-up and a Footlights talk, and after the curtain falls, Artistic Director Stephen Mills stays for a post-show encore. The performance itself runs an hour and 40 minutes, which includes one 20-minute intermission.
