Austin artist Lisa Loudermilk presents her work at Unchained.Art Contemporary Gallery, with the artist in person on October 4.
Lisa Loudermilk is the featured artist at Unchained.Art Contemporary Gallery in downtown Austin this month, and she'll be there in person on Sunday, October 4, from 12 PM to 4 PM. If you can't make that window, her work stays on view through October 31.
Loudermilk is an Austin painter who works in a style she calls 'Baroque Modernism,' and it's a good description of what you'll see. She pushes minimalism past its own limits: paint is rolled and cut with plastic tools, metallic films are sealed under resin, and every previous layer remains visible in the final work. Because of that, the image shifts depending on where you stand and how the light hits it—it's the kind of thing that rewards taking a few steps back and then leaning in.
On view is Pink in the Middle, a 60 x 12-inch piece made with acrylic paint, Art Resin, pH-buffered commercial films, and carborundum powder on a wood panel. The title gives you the starting point, but the process—the rolling, the cutting, the layering—is where the real interest is.

Loudermilk is the second name in the Austin Artist of the Month program, which launched in September with multidisciplinary artist Marcus Delzell. The program is run by Unchained.Art Contemporary Gallery, which started in Zurich in 2020 and now operates out of a historic Beaux-Arts building in downtown Austin. Its owner and director, Christina Hiltscher, describes the gallery's commitment to representing emerging and established artists whose work is authentic, bold, and has an independent voice. Loudermilk fits that description well.
So, if you're downtown on Sunday, you can catch her in person from 12 PM to 4 PM, and the work will be hanging through October 31.
