August Tour - The Art of Storytelling

Landmarks is hosting a guided tour called The Art of Storytelling at Bass Concert Hall on Sunday, August 2, from 10 AM to 11 AM. It's a walk through the hall's collection of sculpture, with a docent leading the way and stopping at a few specific pieces along the route.

The tour focuses on four works: Prometheus and Vulture, The Swan's Dream of Leda, History of Black Bronze I, and Victory Ball. Each one gets its own stop, so you'll have a chance to look at them closely and hear the stories behind them rather than just glancing by on your own. The whole thing is built around that idea of storytelling—how these sculptures tell a story and how you can read it.

Landmarks is the public art program at The University of Texas at Austin. Their whole thing is opening up the university's collection of sculpture and public art to the public through guided walks like this one, so if you've spent time on campus but never really looked at the art, this is a good way to start. It's a low-pressure hour on a Sunday morning, and you don't need any prior knowledge to get something out of it.
