Concert by the Western swing band Asleep at the Wheel at the Austin City Limits Live venue.
Asleep at the Wheel play Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater on Friday, September 12, 2026. The band is led by founder Ray Benson, and this is one of their many returns to the venue.
There's a long history between the band and the stage. Asleep at the Wheel has appeared on the Austin City Limits television series eleven times over five decades, and they were inducted into the ACL Hall of Fame in 2015. The venue itself, ACL Live at The Moody Theater, holds 2,750 people and serves as the permanent home for the show's tapings.
That show, Austin City Limits, is the longest-running music series in American television history. It started on October 17, 1974, when Willie Nelson taped the pilot episode in Studio 6A. It broadcast as part of a national pledge drive in March 1975, became one of PBS's top programs that year, and premiered on the network in 1975. Nelson, the show's first Hall of Fame inductee in 2014, has appeared on the series eighteen times, and his bronze statue still stands at the studio's entrance. The series has earned a Peabody Award and a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame designation, and it's the only television series awarded the National Medal of Arts.
