Armstrong Community Music School's Annual Celebración de la Música

Armstrong Community Music School is hosting its annual Celebración de la Música this Saturday, August 1, at the Cherrywood Center in Austin. It's a free, all-ages afternoon that runs from 1 PM to 4 PM, and the whole thing is built around the school's community of students and teachers.

The live music is the main draw, with performances throughout the afternoon. Beyond the stage, there's an instrument petting zoo where you can get up close with different instruments and try them out, which is a great way to see what's actually under the hood of the things you usually only hear from a distance. There's also a drum circle, so you can jump in and make some noise yourself rather than just listening.

If you're bringing kids, there are arts and crafts tables set up for them to work on while the music goes on around them. And since it's a few hours long, they'll have snacks on hand to keep you going. It's the kind of afternoon that works whether you're coming with a family, a group of friends, or just on your own.

Everything happens at the Cherrywood Center, 1605 E. 38 1/2 St., from 1 PM to 4 PM. Admission is free.
