Live dancehall music performance by Alvin Crow and Matt Mouton at the historic Broken Spoke venue.
Alvin Crow and Matt Mouton are playing the Broken Spoke on Saturday, October 3, with the night split between the restaurant and the dancehall. Matt Mouton takes the restaurant from 6 PM to 8 PM, and Alvin Crow takes over the dancehall starting at 9 PM. If you want the full evening, you can catch Mouton early and then move into the dancehall for Crow.
For those who haven't spent much time there, the Broken Spoke is a South Lamar institution. Owner and dance floor greeter James M. White calls it "the last of the True Texas Dancehalls," a honky-tonk he opened in 1964. Over the decades, it's hosted the upper rungs of country music history—Bob Wills, Ernest Tubb, George Strait, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson—alongside Texas stalwarts like Don Walser, Dale Watson, Kelly Willis, and the Derailers. It's a place that's as much about the dance floor as the stage, and it's served up chicken-fried steak and cold beer since the beginning. The venue runs two-step lessons Wednesday through Saturday, and it's picked up plenty of Best of Austin awards over the years, including Readers Poll Best Country Music Club in 1999.
