Intimate, stripped-down song swaps with Austin songwriters at Brushy Street Commons.
Angel White and Ryan King are playing Brushy Street Commons on Sunday, July 19, as part of the Alley Bar Sunday Sessions. The series is presented by Twisted X Brewing Co. and takes place within the historic walls of 501 Brushy Street in downtown Austin.
Rather than a standard back-to-back set, this is a song swap. The two songwriters trade off, each taking turns with their own material and singing each other's songs, which keeps the night moving and puts their writing on display. It's a stripped-down format, so you're hearing the songs close to the bone, without a full band around them. Ryan King is also known as a member of Night Cap, so this is a chance to hear him working as a songwriter in his own right.
The Alley Bar Sunday Sessions are billed as an intimate, stripped-down song swap featuring some of the city's best songwriters, and the room reflects that. Capacity is strictly limited to 36 patrons per show, with lounge seating throughout. It's a small crowd, so you're close to the stage and the performers, and the room stays quiet enough to hear the lyrics. If you're used to the louder, more crowded rooms downtown, this is a different kind of Sunday afternoon.
