Live music night at Broken Spoke featuring All Hat No Cadillac and Silverheels Band.
All Hat No Cadillac and Silverheels Band are playing the Broken Spoke on Saturday, August 29. It's a double bill that stretches across two different parts of the building: Silverheels Band takes the restaurant from 6 to 8 PM, and All Hat No Cadillac takes over the dancehall starting at 9 PM.
If you've never been, the Broken Spoke is one of those Austin landmarks that still does exactly what it says on the tin. It opened in 1964, when James M. White set it up as a live music venue that serves homestyle meals—the chicken fried steak is the one everyone talks about—and keeps country music running Tuesday through Saturday. It's billed as the 'Last of the True Texas Dancehalls,' and that's a good way to think about it: a place where the food and the dancing are just as much a part of the night as the bands on stage.
That dancehall side is where the two-stepping happens. The Spoke runs lessons from Wednesday to Saturday, 8 to 9 PM, led by instructor Terri White, so if you're not entirely sure about your footwork, you can get a lesson in before the dancehall fills up. On Tuesdays, they do 'Two-Step Tuesdays with Weldon Henson' at 8:15 PM for a $10 cover.
