Alex Dupree celebrates the release of his new album 'Talking to the Dog' with Julian Neel and Alicia Gail.
Alex Dupree is celebrating his new album Talking to the Dog at Sagebrush on Thursday, August 13. He's sharing the bill with Julian Neel and Alicia Gail, both songwriters who work with a similar tradition-bending approach to their writing. The show starts at 8 PM.
Talking to the Dog is a ten-track record that Dupree describes as a series of psychedelic psalms, placing it in a storytelling lineage alongside Neil Young and Harry Crews. The songs pull from a few different directions: the single "New Meaning" and the love song "Room for One More" sit alongside "Voyager Blue" and "You're a Dog, Don't Talk to Me." The whole thing is garnished with jazz lounge piano, blues guitar, and folk rhythms, so it's a bit of a mix rather than sticking to one lane.
Neel and Gail round out the night, and both are billed as tradition-bending songwriters, which fits the bill if you're into writing that leans on folk and Americana without staying strictly inside the lines. Between the three of them, it's a full evening of songwriting.
