A night of African music featuring performances by Mega'Tune, Afro Jazz and Zoumountchi at the Sahara Lounge in East Austin.
Sahara Lounge is hosting Africa Night on Saturday, August 22, with a lineup that pulls from different corners of the continent. The night runs from 7 PM to 2 AM in East Austin, and it's built as a sequence of sets rather than a single show, so you can drop in whenever you like and stay for as much as you want.
Things get moving early with the Africa Night Buffet starting at 7 PM, followed by Afro Jazz at 7:30 PM. Mega'Tune takes over at 9 PM, and Zoumountchi closes the night starting at 11 PM. That's seven hours of music, and because the sets are spaced out, you can catch one act and head home, or settle in for the whole run.
Zoumountchi is the one coming from the farthest away—Niamey, Niger. If you've never seen them, they're the late-night anchor of the bill, and they'll be playing long after the earlier sets have wrapped. Sahara Lounge is an East Austin live music venue and bar known for its relaxed, eclectic atmosphere and for booking live shows most nights across every genre, so this fits right in with the kind of programming they do.
