Austin's only adult spelling bee where blindfolded contestants spell racy phrases for free shots and prizes, hosted by Chelsea Anderson.
Saturn Cocktail Club hosts another Adult Spelling Bee on Tuesday, September 29, starting at 7 PM. It's their monthly event, and they bill it as Austin's only adult spelling bee. The words are intentionally inappropriate and ridiculous, and the club suggests they're best attempted after a few drinks.
The format is what makes it a spectator sport as much as a competition. Contestants are blindfolded while their assigned word is projected on the big screen for the crowd to follow along, so you know exactly how close they are to getting it rightβor where they trip up. Every correctly spelled word earns the speller a shot. The categories get harder and dirtier as the night goes on, so the stakes climb along with the difficulty.
Every week we pick π the 5 best π things to do in Austin and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

Chelsea Anderson hosts the evening. Between rounds, you can order from the bar's current menu, which includes new hot dogs like the Tokyo Dog and the Windy City Dog, and new cocktails like Kiss My Superbowl Ring, Ricochet, My Rosary, and Love's a Parade. It's free to watch and free to enter, so you can either sign up to spell or just hang out and watch other people struggle through the racy phrases. The Adult Spelling Bee is at Saturn Cocktail Club, 906 Congress, Austin Downtown, on Tuesday, September 29, starting at 7 PM.
