An intimate stage adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol with live period music on authentic instruments and Victorian-themed snacks.
The Archive Theater Company is bringing A Victorian Christmas Carol to Pioneer Farms this December, with the run opening on December 4 and continuing through December 20. It's a stage adaptation of Charles Dickens' 1843 novella, and the production is staged the way Dickens himself might have seen it performed: with live period music played on authentic instruments and Victorian-themed snacks. The show runs at Wexman Hall, located at 10621 Pioneer Farms Dr in Austin.
The production is directed by Elizabeth V. Newman and comes as a joint effort between The Archive Theater, The Filigree Theatre, and Pioneer Farms. The Archive Theater Company describes its mission as breathing new life into classical theatre and literature from the 16th through the 20th centuries through new translations and adaptations, and this is a version of the story that leans into that approach. Rather than a modern reimagining, it looks back to the era when the story was first written, keeping the music and the snacks in line with the period.
