Family-friendly block party with food, music and activities on a car-free Howell Mill Road, part of the Atlanta Streets Alive open streets programme.
Westside Stride takes over Howell Mill Road on Sunday, November 8, for a block party that runs from 2 PM to 6 PM. The street will be closed to cars between 8th Street and Trabert Avenue, and the whole thing is free to the public.
The afternoon is staged by the Upper Westside Improvement District, with Atlanta businesses filling out the rest of the day with food, music and family-friendly activities. It runs as part of Atlanta Streets Alive, a program presented by the Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT) with support from Propel ATL and the Atlanta community. The idea is simple: close a street to cars for a few hours so people can bike, walk, skate, dance and play, turning the road into a park-like public space. It's part of an international open streets movement that's taken hold in cities across the US, Canada and beyond.

If you're planning to head over, keep in mind that the street closure lasts longer than the party itself—Howell Mill Road will be closed from 12 PM to 7 PM, so you'll want to plan your route around that if you're driving in from other parts of the city. The event itself runs from 2 PM to 6 PM, and it's free for everyone.
