Interactive, high-energy storytelling session with Mama Koku, inviting children and families to become part of the improvised narrative.
Mama Koku brings her storytelling to the National Center for Civil and Human Rights on Saturday, October 24, as part of the Saturday Adventures at the Center series. It's a family-friendly session that starts at 12 PM, and it's built around the idea that stories aren't just for listening to.
Koku is known for turning storytelling into "story-doing," which is exactly what you'll see here. Instead of just sitting and listening, children and families are invited to step inside the narrative and become part of the performance. Each session is high-energy and improvised, blending imagination, movement, and collaboration, so no two ever turn out the same. If you've been before, it'll be a different experience this time around.
Beyond the storytelling, there's a second part to the afternoon. Visitors are invited to explore the Change Agent Adventure: Children's Gallery, an interactive space for kids 12 and under. It's set up as a hands-on "secret headquarters" where kids can play, create, and build confidence while discovering what it means to be a changemaker. Between the storytelling session and the gallery, it's a full afternoon for families with younger children.
