World premiere of the dramedy Other Paths to God by Kelundra Smith, exploring the lives of five ICU nurses caught in an embezzlement scheme.
Horizon Theatre Company is hosting the world premiere of Other Paths to God, a new play by Kelundra Smith, running from October 9 through November 8, 2026. It's a homegrown Atlanta dramedy, and the press opening is October 16. Smith is an award-winning playwright who also wrote The Wash, and this one comes to the stage as a Black Women Speaks Commission and a National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere.
The story follows five ICU nurses at Morey Medical Center whose lives start to unravel when money goes missing and they're scapegoated in an embezzlement scheme. Smith based the play on interviews with real Atlanta nurses, so the characters are meant to feel like people you'd recognize from real life. The production is billed as Scandal meets The Pitt—funny, poignant, and scandalous—and it centers on the idea that the path to healing and redemption is never a straight line.
Horizon Theatre Company is in its 41st season, and it describes itself as a contemporary Atlanta theatre that connects people and inspires positive change through local stories and talent. Other Paths to God fits that mission pretty closely, being a local story written by an Atlanta playwright and set in an Atlanta hospital.
