Interactive comedic murder mystery dinner theater where guests play detectives or suspects over a three-course meal, with a new monthly theme.
The Murder Mystery Co. is taking over The Hudson Grille - Midtown on Friday, November 13, for a night that's basically a live-action version of Clue. If you've never done one of these, the pitch is simple: you're not just sitting there watching a play; you're part of it. Professional actors pull the audience into the investigation, and you play along as a detective or a suspect, gathering clues and interrogating the people around you. Some guests even get picked to play suspects themselves, so you might find yourself in the hot seat.
The whole thing is built around a three-course meal, which comes with your ticket, so you're eating and investigating at the same time. The company rotates its mysteries every month, with themes that run the gamut: 1930s Old Hollywood, a 1920s Mafia Wedding, a Billionaire's Masquerade Ball, an '80s Battle of the Bands, or a Wedding Gone Wrong. They encourage you to dress to the theme, and there's a Best Costume award handed out, so it's the kind of night where leaning into the costume actually pays off.
Behind the scenes, the company was founded by Scott Cramton, a Shark Tank winner and producer of the award-winning Off-Broadway show Speakeasy Die Softly, and they've spent more than 20 years welcoming millions of guests. No two performances are the same: the audience, the suspects, the accusations, and the twists change every night, so it's not a scripted loop. The show does lean into adult humor and innuendo, though there's no swearing or graphic content, and it's recommended for ages 13 and up.
