Weekly open mic night with amateur and professional stand-up comedians at The Laughing Skull Lounge in Midtown Atlanta.
Open Mic Night is running at The Laughing Skull Lounge every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, starting Tuesday, October 27, and continuing through Wednesday, December 2. The shows kick off at 8 PM each night, so you've got three chances a week to catch it if you're around Midtown.
The room itself is a small, 74-seat space tucked into the back of the Vortex restaurant at 878 Peachtree Street. It's been a fixture of the Atlanta comedy scene since 2009, and it's built around the open mic format. The club calls it the most sought-after open mic on the planet, and they report a two-month waiting list for a spot on the bill. That's the part of the night that brings in the performers: a mix of fledgling amateurs trying out their first bits and seasoned professionals working through new material. Because it's an open mic, you're seeing comedy in its rawest form—the first time a joke ever hits a room—rather than a polished headliner set.

Beyond the open mic, the lounge runs a six-week stand-up comedy class that culminates in a graduation show, so the room is as much a training ground as it is a venue. It's the kind of place where you'll see people at very different stages of their career on the same bill, from someone's first five minutes to a pro refining a tight set. Entry requires you to be 21 or older, and tickets are $15.00. With the shows running Monday through Wednesday at 8 PM, you can drop in on a Tuesday night or any other evening that fits your schedule.
