Immersive play by Rudi Goblen, based on Brandon P. Fleming's memoir, about a high school debate coach and his students preparing for an elite Harvard debate program.
Miseducated opens at the Alliance Theatre on the Hertz Stage on January 27, 2027, and runs through February 21. It's a new play by Rudi Goblen, based on the memoir by Brandon P. Fleming and directed by Teo Castellanos. The Alliance commissioned and developed it with support from the theatre's James Anderson Prize.
The story centers on a group of exceptional high school students from Atlanta preparing to compete in an elite Harvard debate program. Their coach, Brandon, finds himself pulled into a surreal debate with the universe itself. The show moves between the classroom and a metaphysical debate hall, told through electrifying debate rounds, music, and spoken word. It's described as a bold, immersive theatrical experience that places the audience in a high-stakes world of debate, memory, and self-discovery.
Because it's an immersive production, you'll be right in the middle of those debate rounds rather than just watching them from a distance. The shift from the classroom to that metaphysical hall is a big part of how the story unfolds, and the music and spoken word are woven in alongside the dialogue. It's recommended for audiences ages 13 and up.
