The Atlanta Shakespeare Company presents Shakespeare's tragic play Macbeth at The Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse, with post-show Q&As.
The Atlanta Shakespeare Company is bringing Macbeth to The Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse from October 1 to 25, 2026. It's one of the big names on their six-show 2026-2027 season, and it's the kind of play that works best in a room like the Tavern. The production is directed by Amee Vyas.
If you've never seen Macbeth, it's Shakespeare's tragedy about ambition and the cost of getting what you want. It kicks off with three weird sisters who greet Macbeth and Banquo with visions of what could be, and from there, the whole thing spirals as Macbeth and his wife let their desire for power drive them toward a pretty dark end. It's a fast-moving, high-stakes story that doesn't waste much time getting to the blood and the betrayal.
One thing that sets the Tavern apart is what happens after the curtain falls: every show includes a free post-show Q&A with the cast and crew, so you can stick around and ask about how they put it together. If you're starting to make a habit of these, the company also runs a 'Shakespeare Bucket List'—a passport you get stamped at every show you see. And if you're around in December, they've been staging J. Tony Brown's adaptation of A Christmas Carol at the Tavern for over 20 years. They also do 'Shakespeare Out of a Hat,' a one-night-only special where the actors pull the play and the parts out of a hat just before the curtain goes up.
