Author talk with Karla Montalván, author of The Sun and All the Other Stars, moderated by Juanita Velez.
Karla Montalván will be in conversation with Juanita Velez at the Margaret Mitchell House on Tuesday, October 27, at 7 PM. The talk is part of the 'Events at Midtown' series at the house, the former home of Margaret Mitchell and John Marsh where she wrote Gone With the Wind.
Montalván is a Cuban-born writer who was born in Havana in 1994, migrated to Ecuador as a child, and later settled in Miami. She graduated from Miami Dade College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. For the past decade, she has written about identity, gender, and diaspora for People, People en Español, Cosmopolitan, and mitú. The Sun and All the Other Stars is her debut novel, and it follows a Cuban American woman, Marisol Varela, who confronts a generational curse by reliving three past lives across centuries.
Her moderator, Juanita Velez, is a Colombian-born global marketing and DEI executive at Delta Air Lines and an adjunct professor at Emory University. She also founded the nonprofit HYPE Hispanic Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs. The two will talk about Montalván's novel and the themes it touches on.
