A homeschool day exploring historical moments when the public was fooled into believing the unbelievable, with hands-on activities and historical simulations for families.
Atlanta History Center is hosting another Homeschool Day on Thursday, Nov 19, and this one is built around historical hoaxes—those moments when the public was fooled into believing the unbelievable. It's part of a series they run on the third Thursday of every month, aimed at elementary and middle school students and their families.
The morning is structured around a few timed activities, so you're not just wandering through a gallery. There's hands-on artifact exploration and a craft station, along with performances and historical simulations that bring the theme to life. The whole thing is designed to get kids thinking about how these hoaxes worked and why people fell for them, rather than just reading about them on a plaque.
One thing that makes these days worth it is that your admission doesn't stop at the programmed activities. It opens up the rest of the museum, including the Goizueta Children's Experience and the farm, so you can keep exploring long after the scheduled sessions are over. If you've got younger kids in tow, that's a good way to stretch the morning into a full day.

It all happens at the Main Campus, 130 West Paces Ferry Road NW, starting at 10 AM. The session is included with the cost of general admission, so you just pay your way into the museum and the rest is covered.
