Half-hour nature walk led by a Fernbank Forest Ranger through Fernbank Forest, recommended for ages 6 and up.
Fernbank Museum of Natural History is hosting a Family Nature Walk on Sunday, October 18, from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM. It's a short, half-hour outing led by a Fernbank Forest Ranger, who takes the group through Fernbank Forest for some outdoor nature exploration. The walk is recommended for ages 6 and up, so it's geared toward families with kids rather than toddlers.
To get there, you'll want to head to the museum's Outside Terrace on the first floor, with doors leading through WildWoods. That's a good place to start because WildWoods is one of the museum's more distinct features—an immersive exhibit that comes alive with a soft, enchanting glow that highlights the natural flora and fauna. If you're planning to spend the whole morning there, it's a nice companion to the walk itself.
It helps to have a bit of context on the place: Fernbank is a nonprofit natural history museum, a giant screen theater, and an old-growth forest all on the same grounds at 767 Clifton Road in Atlanta. It's not affiliated with the Fernbank Science Center, which runs as a division of DeKalb County Schools, so if you've visited the Science Center before, this is a different spot entirely.
