Exhibition 'Rhoden Garden' at the Hammonds House Museum, a historic home in Atlanta devoted to artists of African descent.
Hammonds House Museum is currently showing Rhoden Garden, part of its ongoing exhibitions in the West End. If you haven't spent much time there, it's a museum dedicated to artists of African descent, and it's housed in a historic 1872 home that once belonged to Dr. Otis Thrash Hammonds. The house itself is part of the experience, so you're walking through a space with a long history while you look at the work.
Rhoden Garden is the current feature, but the museum doesn't just do rotating shows. It holds a permanent collection that includes work by Romare Bearden, Hale Woodruff, and James Van Der Zee. The museum balances that permanent side with regular exhibitions by contemporary artists, so Rhoden Garden sits alongside pieces from some of the most recognized names in African American art. It's the kind of place where you can see a contemporary show and then spend some time with the permanent collection in the same visit.
