A workshop on legacy and latch-hook crafts led by visual artists Amanda Banks and Saudade Toxosi at the Museum of Design Atlanta.
Craft, Conversation, & Coffee: A Workshop on Legacy & Latch-Hook comes to the Museum of Design Atlanta on Saturday, October 24, from 10 AM to 12 PM. It's a morning spent working with latch-hooking, a fiber craft that lets you build a rug or wall hanging by looping yarn through a canvas grid. The session is led by two artists, Amanda Banks and Saudade Toxosi, who both work with textiles and the things we leave behind.
Banks is a self-taught visual artist based in North Georgia. Her practice is materially driven, and she works with found and reclaimed materials—second-hand yarn, discarded plastics, and old technologies. She's also the Board Secretary for the Rome Area Council for the Arts and has exhibited at Atlanta Contemporary, Spruill Gallery, and Stove Works. Toxosi works across painting, collage, photography, sound, and installation, and her work looks at memory, cultural identity, and the poetics of everyday materials. Together, they'll guide the workshop around the theme of legacy.
The session is sponsored by three local makers: Atlanta coffee roaster Notable, Rome's Swift & Finch Coffee Roasters, and Xocolatl Small Batch Chocolate, an Atlanta craft chocolate company founded in 2014. It's part of the broader programming at the Museum of Design Atlanta, which opened in 1989 and is the only museum in the Southeast devoted entirely to design.
