Covered in Blood [Night 1]

Covered in Blood kicks off at The Drunken Unicorn on Thursday, October 29, the first of three nights of cover sets for Halloween weekend. It's a tribute showcase presented by Speakeasy and Nobody's Booking, and the whole thing is built around local acts reimagining iconic bands. Instead of a standard tribute night, each band takes on a different name for the set, so you're getting a few different eras and styles in one evening.

On the first night, Smiling Politely takes on the Smashing Pumpkins, Janie Danger does the Misfits, Big Yellow steps into the Pixies, Annie Leeth takes on Stereolab, and Penny Loafer does Swirlies. That's a wide spread to cover in a single bill—you've got the heavy fuzz of the Pumpkins, the horror-punk of the Misfits, the jagged dynamics of the Pixies, the motorik leanings of Stereolab, and the shoegaze swirl of the Swirlies. If you're into those records, it's a good way to hear them all back-to-back in one room.

Annie Leeth is a familiar face at the venue; she's played the Unicorn before as part of the Atlanta Space Quartet and with Street Racer. The Drunken Unicorn itself has been hosting a steady run of shows lately, with Apollo Brown & Skyzoo, TRAITRS, Vampira, and Sxft Chains all passing through recently. This is just the first of the three nights, so if you miss this one, there are more coming later in the weekend.

Covered in Blood Night 1 runs from 8 PM to 11:59 PM on Thursday, October 29, at The Drunken Unicorn, 736 Ponce De Leon Place N.E. Tickets are $15, and the night is 21+ only.
