Stand-up show and wine tasting pairing, a Fever Original in which a local comedian guides the audience through a curated tasting of wine varietals.
An Idiot's Guide to Wine is coming to Upstairs Atlanta on Saturday, November 28, at 6 PM. It's a comedy show built around wine, and the whole thing is a Fever Original, produced by Fever under license from Grapes of Mirth Pty Ltd. The show was written by Merrick Watts, an Australian stand-up who describes himself as the only comedian in the world to hold a WSET Level 3 qualification from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust. That's a legitimate professional certification in wine and spirits, so the wine side of the night isn't just a prop.
The format pairs a live stand-up set with a curated tasting of different wine varietals. It's pitched at wine connoisseurs and total beginners alike, with the promise that the hardest part will be not spilling your wine while you're laughing. The comedy is performed by a local comedian hand-selected by Watts, rather than by Watts himself, so you'll see a local face on stage delivering the material.
Drinking is voluntary, and non-alcoholic drinks are available for an additional fee. Seating is first come, first served with no numbered seats, so if you have a preference for where you sit, you'll want to get there early. The show is for ages 21 and over.
